Brenna White Named All-East Region Second Team

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Nov. 16, 2011) – Mercy College freshman Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev.) was named to the Daktronics All-East Region Second Team for volleyball, it was announced Wednesday morning.

Voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Daktronics recognizes All-Region and All-America teams in most Division II sports.  White joins six other East Coast Conference players in being honored.  She was recently named to the All-ECC First Team after a spectacular freshman campaign in which she led Division II and and set the all-time Mercy freshman record in total kills (652), posting the second-highest total in Mercy history and ranking second in DII in kills-per-set, with a 4.94 average.  She also became the first Division II player to reach 600 kills in a season since scoring was reduced from 30-point sets to 25 each in 2008. She was the only Maverick to appear in all 132 sets and finished second on the team with 319 digs.

The Mavericks finished the season with a 10-25 record, more than doubling last year's win total. After going two years without a conference victory and three without one against a current conference foe prior to this season, the 2011 Mavericks shocked the ECC after being tabbed to finish last in the preseason poll, taking four matches and several sets from some of the conference's top programs despite relying heavily on five freshmen and two sophomores with only one senior on the roster.
