Brenna White Ranked Fourth in Division II, Top Freshman

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 24, 2011) – Freshman outside hitter Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev.) of the Mercy College volleyball team moved up to No. 4 in the nation in kills-per-set and is the top-ranked freshman in this week's NCAA Division II rankings.  Already the East Coast Conference leader in total kills with 476, she now tops the conference in kills-per-set as well as pacing the Mavericks in digs with 252.

Since breaking into the Top 10 three weeks ago at No. 7 with 4.52 kills-per-set, White has upped her average to 4.67 to become the top freshman in the nation and rank fourth in all of Division II.  She has notched 12 double-doubles this season, including 11 matches with 20-plus kills and two 20-20 performances (kills and digs).  Her 476 kills also rank second in all of Division II.

Ranked in the Top 20 all year, White has been named ECC Co-Rookie of the Week once as well as garnering two Honor Roll accolades. The entire team has seen vast improvement over recent years, as the Mavericks' two conference wins this season are their first in three years, with five freshmen and two sophomores contributing heavily.

White could become only the ninth Mavericks player ever and first since 2003 to top 500 kills in a season in her next match.  She is on pace to post a minimum of 589 kills on the season, which would tie her for third all-time in the Mercy single-season records.

Head Coach Alan Clements will lead White and the rest of the Mavericks (8-19 overall, 2-6 in the ECC) against conference opponent the University of Bridgeport (13-4, 6-2) as they fight to earn a playoff berth on Tuesday in Connecticut.  Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
