Volleyball Fights Valiantly, Falls at Molloy in Season Finale
The Mercy College volleyball team concluded the season with a hard fought, 3-1 loss at Molloy on Tuesday. Molloy (8-24; 2-10 East Coast Conference) took the first set 25-23 and the second 25-12, before Mercy (4-25; 0-12 ECC) captured the third set 27-25. The final set went to Molloy 25-15.
Leading the way for Mercy was freshman hitter Nicolette Gebhardt (Middletown, N.Y./Pine Bush), who hit .362, knocking down 22 kills. She added 13 digs for a double-double. Classmate Nicole Pepe (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) added nine kills, hitting .474. Sophomore setter Rebecca Lynch (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) had 35 assists. Defensively, senior Mirlusca Montes (Lima, Peru/Senor de la Misericordia) had a team-high 16 digs, as Lynch added 12.
For Molloy, Angelica Nicalek led all players with 24 kills.
