Dowling Tops Mercy College Volleyball in ECC Quarterfinals
OAKDALE, NY
- The Mercy College volleyball team was defeated
in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Quarterfinals by the top seed,
Dowling College, by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday.
The Golden Lions notched 14 kills on 17 attempts in set one for a
25-9 victory. In the second set the Mavericks recorded 12 kills,
but it wasn't enough as the Golden Lions had a .467 hitting
percentage en route to a 25-16 win.
Dowling rode its momentum into set three to take the set 25-14.
Monika Kasperek recorded 12 kills on 17 attempts for the Golden
Lions.
Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton
(Yallahs,
Jamaica) had eight kills for the
Mavericks. Junior middle blocker Ashley Zufelt
(Farmington,
NM) added six kills on 12
attempts. Senior setter Trevene Smith
(Montego Bay,
Jamaica) had 17 assists.
The Mavericks finished with a regular season record of 7-22 overall
and 2-14 in the ECC. Hamilton led the team in kills per set with
2.83 and junior outside hitter Diana Bruzzone
(Guayaquil,
Ecuador) had a team-high 4.57
digs per set. Smith had 6.29 assists per set to lead Mercy.
