DOBBS FERRY, NY - Throughout her illustrious
career at Mercy College, junior Diana Bruzzone has
won numerous awards for her play on the volleyball court, performed
well in the classroom and been a fixture on the Dobbs Ferry campus.
She is the prototypical model of consistency.
Bruzzone, a native of Guayaquil, Ecuador came to the United States
to attend Mercy College in the fall of 2006. Her two loves brought
her to Mercy College: volleyball and physical therapy.
"I came to Mercy College because I heard they had a great physical
therapy program," Bruzzone said. "Ever since I was 15 when I hurt
my elbow, I knew that I wanted to be a physical therapist."
She is on track to graduate in May 2009 - one year early - and
hopes to be selected for Mercy College's physical therapy doctoral
program. She currently has an overall 3.32 grade point average and
is on pace to be an All-Academic selection this year.
Bruzzone started playing volleyball when she was seven years old
and has played ever since. At her high school, Cruz del Sur, she
became a multi-sport athlete competing in track & field,
basketball and volleyball. She cites being named the best athlete
as a sophomore and senior, as her proudest athletic
achievement.
In 2006 she had the honor of competing for her country in the South
American Games. She played against Argentina, Peru, Brazil,
Colombia and Chile.
"It was great to be able to represent my country, something I will
remember for the rest of my life," Bruzzone said.

Bruzzone has made the best of her opportunities here at Mercy
College. She has just completed her third year with the volleyball
program as an outside hitter. Earlier this season she reached the
1,000th career dig plateau against Molloy College, becoming just
the 12th Maverick to pull off the feat.
"I think reaching that milestone reflects on the hard work that I
have done throughout my career here at Mercy," the junior outside
hitter said.
As a freshman she had an immediate impact, leading the team in digs
per set with 4.51 and contributed on the attack with 2.84 kills per
set. She earned two ECC Rookie of the Week honors and was named to
the All-Tournament team at the Bryant Invitational.
The following season she led the club in digs per set with 3.98 and
was second on the team with 2.97 kills per set. She also led the
team with 81 service aces. She was named to the All-Tournament team
at the Queens Invitational as well.
This season she is again leading the Mavericks in digs per set with
4.57 and is a close second in kills per set with 2.61. She earned
ECC Player of the Week honors for her performances against
Concordia and Bridgeport. She recorded 21 kills for a .442 hitting
percentage, while adding 16 digs and four service aces. Against
Bridgeport she notched 12 kills and 20 digs.
Year after year Bruzzone gets the job done on the court and in the
classroom. She has set herself up for success down the road through
her consistent efforts.
