Mercy College Volleyball Drops Five-Set Match to Molloy
ROCKVILLE
CENTRE, NY
- The Mercy College volleyball team was defeated
by East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent Molloy by a score of 3-2 on
Thursday.
Sophomore middle hitter Shedeiky Hamilton
(Yallahs,
Jamaica) led the Mavericks with
20 kills for a .357 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter
Diana Bruzzone
(Guayaquil,
Ecuador) recorded 16 kills and 22
digs. Senior setter Trevene Smith (Montego
Bay,
Jamaica) added a season-high 52
assists.
The Mavericks (7-22, 2-14 ECC) got off to a quick start in set one
with 17 kills. Mercy took set one 25-19.
The Blue & White brought their momentum into set two as they
recorded a .278 hitting percentage en route to a 25-21 victory.
Over the first two sets Mercy had 31 kills to Molloy's 19.
The tide turned in set three as Molloy (9-20, 4-12 ECC) responded
from early adversity with a 25-16 win. Set four was extremely close
as both teams held leads, but Molloy came out on top 25-23 to send
the match to a decisive set five.
Molloy completed the comeback with a narrow victory in set five
15-13.
Angelica Nicalek had 19 kills and 17 digs for Molloy.
The Mavericks will now move into the ECC Quarterfinals on November
12 and will face the top seeded Golden Lions of Dowling College.
