Mercy Cruises Past Clippers 3-0
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's
volleyball team defeated East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent
Concordia College on Thursday by a score of 3-0.
Freshman setter Bridgette Pennelle (Hawthorne, NY)
recorded 27 assists and six digs. Sophomore middle hitter
Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) notched 10
kills and 13 digs. Junior outside hitter Diana Bruzzone
(Guayaquil, Ecuador) added 14 digs and nine kills.
In the first set the Mavericks (5-9, 1-4 ECC) jumped out to a 14-4
lead, but the Clippers (2-11, 0-5 ECC) scored the next four points
to close the gap. However, the Mavericks came back strong to take
the set 25-14. In the second set Mercy took a 21-12 lead on a
Crasheena Ward (Danbury, CT) kill. The Mavericks
took the second set 25-17.
The Clippers fought hard in the third set and tied the score up at
12. Mercy came up big with three aces by Hamilton to take a 23-20
lead. Ward closed out the set with a kill on the right side for a
25-22 win.
Amanda Byrd had 13 digs for the Clippers.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to
play Molloy.
