Mercy Volleyball Splits Tri-Match; Beats Felician and Falls to Pace

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's
volleyball team split a tri-match on Saturday by defeating Felician
College by a score of 3-0, but falling to Pace University 3-0.
Against Felician junior outside hitter Diana Bruzzone
(Guayaquil, Ecuador) led the Mavericks with 13 kills on 27
attempts and notched 16 digs. Junior middle blocker Ashley
Zufelt (Farmington, NM) had eight kills on 23 attempts.
Freshman Bridgette Pennelle (Hawthorne, NY) added
16 assists and six digs.
The Mavericks (3-7) jumped out to a quick start by taking the first
set 25-14. Felician (0-10) fought back in the next two sets, but
Mercy was too much for the Golden Falcons as they took both sets,
25-18 and 25-21.
Amber Doran had nine digs for the Golden Falcons.
In the match against Pace (6-2), sophomore middle hitter
Shedeiky Hamilton (Yallahs, Jamaica) had nine
kills and nine digs. Bruzzone recorded 24 digs and Pennelle added
11 assists.
Pace came out firing in set one with a 25-13 win. The Mavericks
battled in the second set but was undone by a Setters' 9-0 run.
Pace took set two 25-20 and the final set 25-16.
Danielle Furka had 12 kills on 32 attempts for the Setters. Shea
Hansen notched 33 kills.
The Mavericks will be back in action when they travel to Queens on
Tuesday.
