Women’s Soccer Drops Close Contest to East Stroudsburg, 2-1
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2011) – On Thursday evening, the Mercy College women's soccer squad lost a tight match-up against East Stroudsburg University, 2-1 in East Stroudsburg, Pa. With the victory, the Warriors improved to 4-3-1 overall. Following the defeat, the Mavericks are now 1-6 on the season.
ESU sophomore back Carly Collins (Monroe, N.Y.) started the game's scoring in the 19th minute of play when she scored off a penalty kick. Mercy was able to find the equalizer 10 minutes later when junior midfielder Viridiana Ortega (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched her first tally in a Mavericks uniform. Coming out of halftime, the two clubs were still knotted at 1-all. However, in the 55th minute, Warriors senior forward Megan Keiser (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) scored an unassisted goal to give East Stroudsburg a 2-1 lead. It was an advantage the Warriors would not relinquish the rest of regulation.
