The East Coast Conference today named Mercy College women's soccer freshman Shelby Martino (Portola Hills, Calif./El Toro) the Rookie of the Week, for the week ending September 19. Martino is the first Maverick honored by the conference office this season.

Martino, a midfielder, started both games last week for Mercy (2-3-0 overall, 0-1 ECC), who split a pair of games, beating Post 4-1 before losing to Dowling 1-0.

Playing on the left side, she scored the first two goals of her college career in the win over Post. Her first came at the 11:59 mark of the first half, while her second, the eventual game-winner, came at 58:59.
