Mercy College Women's Soccer Falls to NYIT, 4-1
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The
Mercy College women's soccer team was defeated by East Coast
Conference (ECC) opponent NYIT by a score of 4-1 on Thursday.
The Bears (9-8, 4-5 ECC) started the scoring in the eighth minute
when Briana Carbone collected the rebound and deposited it into the
back of the net. Three minutes later, Marisa Maltese made it 2-0 on
a free kick from about 25 yards out.
The Mavericks (1-9-2, 0-7-2 ECC) got on the board in the 17th
minute when sophomore Damima Bakayoko (New York,
NY) broke ahead of the defenders, but was denied by the
goalkeeper. However, sophomore Delmara Reece (Yonkers,
NY) was there to clean up the rebound for her third goal
of the year.
NYIT made it 3-1 on a pass into the crease by Maltese to Megan
Emanuelo who beat the goalkeeper on the right side in the 40th
minute.
In the second half, Maltese added to her totals when she nailed a
shot from 20 yards out in the 75th minute to put an end to the
scoring.
Prior to the game the Mercy College Athletics Department celebrated
the careers of two seniors, Jessica Fabian (Whitehall,
PA) and Kelly Smith (Dundee, Scotland),
in a Senior Day ceremony.
