DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's soccer team was defeated by East Coast Conference (ECC) opponent NYIT by a score of 4-1 on Thursday.

The Bears (9-8, 4-5 ECC) started the scoring in the eighth minute when Briana Carbone collected the rebound and deposited it into the back of the net. Three minutes later, Marisa Maltese made it 2-0 on a free kick from about 25 yards out.

The Mavericks (1-9-2, 0-7-2 ECC) got on the board in the 17th minute when sophomore Damima Bakayoko (New York, NY) broke ahead of the defenders, but was denied by the goalkeeper. However, sophomore Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY) was there to clean up the rebound for her third goal of the year.

NYIT made it 3-1 on a pass into the crease by Maltese to Megan Emanuelo who beat the goalkeeper on the right side in the 40th minute.

In the second half, Maltese added to her totals when she nailed a shot from 20 yards out in the 75th minute to put an end to the scoring.

Prior to the game the Mercy College Athletics Department celebrated the careers of two seniors, Jessica Fabian (Whitehall, PA) and Kelly Smith (Dundee, Scotland), in a Senior Day ceremony.
