Mavericks Fall to Dowling 3-0 in ECC Women's Soccer

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Dowling College in East Coast Conference (ECC) play on Saturday.
Dowling (8-4-3, 5-1-1 ECC) got on the scoreboard early as Kelly Cefalu connected from 15 yards out on a Stephanie Cotter feed in the fifth minute.
Mercy (1-6-2, 0-5-2) held the Golden Lions in check until the 42nd minute when Cefalu found Lauren Carbonaro in the middle where she buried a shot from 25 yards out just under the crossbar.
Dowling added one more 11 seconds before the end of the first half. This time it was Vanessa Moreira who connected on a cross from Carbonaro.
That would be all the scoring for the contest as neither squad could find the back of the net in the second frame with strong defensive play on both ends.
Dowling outshot Mercy 23-4 on the day. Goalkeeper Jackie Roebuck (Walden, NY) made nine saves for the Mavericks, including six in the second half. Alicia Commisso stopped two shots for Dowling.
Mercy returns to action on Thursday, October 23 at Felician. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
