Molloy Defeats Mercy Women's Soccer 3-0
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The
Mercy College women's soccer team was defeated by East Coast
Conference (ECC) opponent Molloy College by a score of 3-0 on
Thursday.
In the first period Molloy (6-5-1, 4-2 ECC) got on the board in the
17th minute when Kristie Caruso followed her own corner kick into
the left side of the net. The Mavericks (1-5-2, 0-4-2 ECC) played
strong defense to keep the Lions at bay for the rest of the
period.
Paula Sanelli got things moving for the Lions in the opening minute
of the second period with a nice maneuver to put Molloy up 2-0.
Gillian Fortune set Sanelli up with a perfect pass into the box,
and Sanelli did the rest.
Caruso struck again for the final goal of the game on a smash from
10 yards out in the 59th minute. Sanelli picked up the assist for
her third point of the contest.
Mavericks' goaltender freshman Jackie Roebuck (Walden,
NY) recorded four saves. Christina Aquilon picked up the
shutout for the Lions.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Saturday, October 18 when
the play host to Dowling at noon.
