DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's soccer team gave C.W. Post, ranked No. 6 in the latest national rankings, a hard fought match in a 4-0 defeat on Monday.
C.W. Post (10-1, 3-0 ECC) held a 10-3 first half advantage in shots and scored in the 27th minute on a boot from 25 yards out by Tove Eriksson. That would be all they would get though before the break.
Mercy's (1-3-1, 0-2-1 ECC) defense continued to hold the Pioneers in check early in the second frame until Eriksson fired another long ball into the upper left corner in the 72nd minute. C.W. Post added goals from Ivana Babic and Jackie Sousa in the 78th and 81st minutes, respectively to put the contest out of reach.
The Pioneers out-shot the Mavericks 20-3 for the match. Mercy goalkeeper Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) made seven saves. C.W. Post goalkeeper Deanna Esposito made one save.
The Mavericks will look to get back on track at Queens on Wednesday, October 8 in another East Coast Conference match.
