Mavericks Announce 2008 Women's Soccer Slate
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College Head Women's Soccer Coach Rachael Safirstein announced the program's 2008 schedule on Friday. This year's 15-game regular season campaign will see the Mavericks host nine games and take six on the road. Four of this year's opponents, C.W. Post, Dowling, Bridgeport, and Adelphi, made appearances in the 2007 NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.
"This is a challenging schedule and no game will be handed to us," said Safirstein who took over the squad in May. "At the end of the day, it's going to come down to the team buying into our philosophy and executing better than the opponent."
Mercy's home and season opener will be on September 3 versus Nyack. After a contest at Dominican on September 6, the Mavericks will host two more non-conference foes in Bloomfield and Goldey Beacom on September 9 and 13, respectively.
East Coast Conference (ECC) play will kick-off on September 20 at St. Thomas Aquinas. The Mavericks will then host Caldwell on September 23. All but one of the remaining nine contests will be within the league, culminating with the regular season finale on October 30 at home versus Molloy.
"We're looking to create an environment where they will battle for each other and be committed to making the most of their opportunity," said Safirstein. "If those two things happen, positive results will come."
