NYIT Tops Mercy College Women's Soccer in Season Finale
OLD WESTBURY, NY - The Mercy College women's soccer team fell by a score of 5-0 at NYIT in the final game of the 2007 season for both programs. The Mavericks finished the year at 2-10 overall and 1-9 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while the Bears wrapped it up at 6-12 overall and 3-7 in the league.
NYIT scored three times in the first half, getting its first goal at the 4:05 mark from Taylor Jensen (East Meadow, NY) on a feed from Krista Yulfo (Long Beach, NY). Yulfo then connected on a pass from Katie Hicks (Valley Stream, NY) in the 17th minute, and Diana Cotilletta (New Hyde Park, NY) gave NYIT a 3-0 lead in the 30th minute with an assist going to Mona Lekaj (Albertson, NY).
Jensen added her second goal of the contest on a shot from 25 yards out in the 74th minute, and Lekaj also converted a 25-yard shot in the 81st minute for the final margin of 5-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) made 15 saves for the Mavericks. NYIT keeper Cathy Gironda (Smithtown, NY) stopped all three shots she faced from Mercy freshman forward Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY).
