Mavericks Fall 6-2 at New Haven in Women's Soccer

WEST HAVEN, CT -  The Mercy College women's soccer team dropped a 6-2 decision at the hands of host New Haven in a East Coast Conference (ECC) game on Tuesday.  The Mavericks are now 1-9 overall and 1-8 in ECC play, while the Chargers improved to 12-5-2 overall and 8-1 in the league.

New Haven jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a tally by Claire Siekaniec off a feed from Holly Dawson in the fifth minute. Anna Schueneman gave the Chargers a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute when she connected on a pass from Amy Desmarais. Mercy cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 21:21 mark as freshman Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY) dribbled past three defenders and found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.

The Chargers took control in the second half getting three goals over a span of 11:18, stretching the margin to 5-1. The Mavericks got one back in the 75th minute on a shot from 25 yards out by sophomore Ann Meenagh (Dublin, Ireland), but New Haven responded with the final goal of the contest from Michelle Loya in the 79th minute

Freshman Megan McKim (Cortlandt Manor, NY) made five saves in the first 30 minutes, while freshman Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) stopped eight shots in the final 60 minutes for Mercy.

The Mavericks will be back in action on Thursday, October 25, when they host Felician in their final home game of the 2007 season at 3:00 p.m.
