Mercy College Women's Soccer Defeated by Dowling 4-0
OAKDALE, NY - The Mercy College women's soccer team fell by a score of 4-0 to host Dowling on Wednesday. The Mavericks are now 1-8 overall and 1-7 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. The Golden Lions improved to 12-4 overall and 5-2 in the league.
Dowling scored three goals in the opening half with the first coming on a deflection by Brianna Falese in the 19th minute. Vanessa Moreira gave the Golden Lions a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute on a give and go from Stephanie Cotter, and Kelly Cefalu made it 3-0 in the 38th minute on a long ball from Falese.
Dowling went on to add one more in the 51st minute when Lyndsey Staunton connected on a one-timer in the box on a feed from Maria Saitta.
Freshmen Megan McKim (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) split the game in net for Mercy. McKim made seven saves and Kowalski stopped five shots.
The Mavericks will return to action on Tuesday, October 23, at New Haven. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
