Mavericks Take Concordia 4-2 in ECC Women's Soccer
BRONXVILLE, NY - Freshman forward Delmara Reece (Yonkers, NY) scored three times and freshman Ashley Borofsky (Southington, CT) scored once to lift the Mercy College women's soccer team to its first win of the season, a 4-2 decision over host Concordia on Saturday. Mercy is now 1-7 overall and 1-6 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. Concordia dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-6 in the league.
Borofsky got Mercy on the scoreboard first in the 22nd minute as she nailed a free kick from 25 yards out. Concordia evened the score at 1-1 on a successful penalty kick by Maura Torres in the 32nd minute.
The Mavericks regained the lead in the 51st minute when Reece notched her first goal of the contest after an initial save was made by Concordia goalkeeper Mary Darbee. The Clippers tied the game again in the 76th minute on a shot by Rachel Woodland from 25 yards out.
Mercy responded again in the 78th minute on a shot from the right side by Reece that hit off the post and caromed in for what would be the game-winner. Reece add some insurance in the 87th minute on a penalty kick.
Concordia held a 9-7 advantage in shots. Freshmen Megan McKim (Cortlandt Manor, NY) and Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) split the game in net for Mercy with McKim making three saves, while Kowalski stopped two shots. Darbee made the one save for the Clippers.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Wednesday, October 17, at Dowling, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
