Wilmington Defeats Mercy College Women's Soccer 2-0
NEW CASTLE, DE - The Mercy College women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by host Wilmington in a non-conference game on Thursday. The Mavericks are now 0-7 on the year, while Wilmington moved to 12-3.
Wilmington scored both of its goals early in the first half. The first came from Begum Malali (Galloway, NJ) on a through ball by Danielle Niccoli (Sparrows Point, MD) 8:07 into the contest. The Wildcats got their second tally at the 16:50 mark when Megan Whalen (Middletown, DE) delivered a chip that Nicole Meis (Glassboro, NJ) converted with a header.
Mercy goalkeeper Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) made five saves, while Catie Jones (Bel Air, MD) stopped two shots for Wilmington.
The Mavericks return to action on Saturday, October 13, with an East Coast Conference (ECC) game at Concordia beginning at Noon.
