Mavericks Fall to Adelphi in ECC Women's Soccer 3-1
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College women's soccer team fell by a score of 3-1 to visiting Adelphi on Tuesday. The Mavericks are 0-6 overall and 0-6 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while the Panthers improved to 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the ECC.
The game remained scoreless until the 34th minute when junior forward Erin Klimkowski (Westbury, NY) booted in a well-placed corner kick from senior midfielder Denise Auer (Holbrook, NY) to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. Adelphi struck again just before halftime on a break away goal by senior forward Jacki Walsh (Ronkonkoma, NY) to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Mercy cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 58th minute as freshman defender Ashley Borofsky (Southington, CT) connected on a direct kick from 30 yards out for her first collegiate goal.
The Panthers held the one-goal advantage until the 80th minute, when Klimkowski scored her second goal of the contest for insurance, redirecting a shot up the middle by sophomore midfielder Brittany Hess (East Meadow, NY).
Adelphi out-shot Mercy 20-6, and held an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) made five saves for Mercy. Adelphi's senior keeper Christine Conway (Rockville Centre, NY) stopped two shots.
Mercy will return to action on Thursday, October 11, with a non-conference game at Wilmington. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
