Mavericks Defeated by Molloy in ECC Women's Soccer, 5-0
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY - Molloy College scored four second half goals to pull away for a 5-0 decision over visiting Mercy College in an East Coast Conference (ECC) women's soccer contest on Saturday. The Mavericks now stand at 0-3 overall and 0-3 in ECC play, while the Lions improved to 4-6-1 overall and 2-2 in the ECC.
Molloy broke through for its first goal in the 27th minute on a shot from Kristie Caruso three yards out into the right corner.
The Lions took the 1-0 advantage into the break before scoring three times in a span of 4:49 early in the second half. Christine Johnsen netted the first in the 49th minute on a through ball up the middle from Kelly LaClair. Joanna Taylor then made it 3-0 on a header off a corner kick in the 52nd minute, and Dianna Geneva capped the flurry with a tally in the 54th minute on another assist from Carlson. Kristyn O'Brien would add the fifth goal in the 82nd minute, connecting on a feed from Charlotte Laurie.
Molloy out-shot Mercy 33-6 and held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks. Mercy College freshman goalkeeper Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) made 18 saves. Molloy keeper Christina Aquilon stopped one shot on goal.
The Mavericks will return to action on Wednesday, October 3, as they host Bridgeport at 3:00 p.m. in another ECC match.
