Joseph Mendonca Steps Down as Head Coach of Mercy College Women's Soccer
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Interim Co-Director of Athletics Ashlee Kelly announced that Joseph Mendonca has resigned his position of head women's soccer coach to become Director of Recreation in his hometown of Stonington, CT. A search for his replacement will begin immediately.
"I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach at Mercy College, and for the effort that all of our student-athletes have put forth to continue to strengthen this program," said Mendonca. "I enjoyed being a member of the Mercy College community and I will look to see great success from the program in the future."
Mendonca was hired in May of 2007 and guided the program to a 2-10 overall record and a 1-9 mark in East Coast Conference (ECC) play this past fall. The Mavericks posted a 4-2 road win over Concordia and a 2-1 win versus Felician in their final home game of the season. The program will return 10 starters in 2008.
"We would like to thank Joe for his hard work over the last year and for his dedication to the program," said Kelly. "We wish him all the best as he moves on to this next step in his professional career."
