Mercy Women's Soccer Edged by Felician, 4-2

            RUTHERFORD, NJ - The Mercy College women's soccer team fell to Felician 4-2, on Friday, October 20.  Mercy is now 2-12-0 overall, while Felician improved to 2-16-1.

            Mercy took the lead in the contest in the 23^rd minutes.  Senior midfielder Lindsay Levasseur (Vancouver, Canada) took a corner kick for the Flyers and was able to place the ball into the back of the net.  With less then five minutes remaining in the first half Felician was about to tie the game at one.  Cortney Gavin (Kearny, NJ) scored for the Golden Falcons off a rebound by teammate Brittany Lohman (Nutley, NJ), who recorded the assist.

            Aleshia Jijon (Rochelle Park, NJ) helped the Golden Falcons score two quick goals in the second half.  At the 57 minute mark Jijon took a corner kick and Arianna Beam (North Arlington, NJ) headed the ball into the far corner of the net.  Less than seven minutes later Jijon scored, putting Felician up 3-1.  Mercy's freshman midfielder Samantha LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) scored her third goal of the season in the 67th minute.  LaBella took a direct kick for the Flyers and converted cutting Felician's lead one goal.  The Golden Falcon scored with less than a minute left in the contest to put the game away.  Beam passed to Lohman who placed the ball in the net, making the final score of the contest 4-2.

            Mercy's freshman goalkeeper Sasha Atkins (Bronx, NY) recorded six saves.  Her counterpart Feliz Cardenas (Long Branch, NJ) had two saves for the Golden Falcons.

            Mercy will be back in action again on Monday, October 23, at Adelphi.  The East Coast Conference (ECC) contest will start at 3:00 p.m.
