Mercy Women's Soccer Falls 2-0, at Nyack
NYACK, NY- The Mercy women's soccer team fell by a score of 2-0 to host Nyack on Saturday, October 14. Mercy dropped to 2-11-0 overall, while Nyack improved to 4-11-1.
Nyack's Beth Fox (Long Valley, NJ) netted the game's first goal at 5:35. There was a loose ball in front of the net and Fox was in position to convert. The Warriors were able to tack on another goal in the 56th minute. This time it was Fox with the assist as she crossed the ball to Becky Gogolen (Ringwood, NJ), who got her head on the ball and knocked it in.
Mercy's freshmen Stephanie Bann (New Cumberland, PA) and Nicolina Coppola (College Point, NY) split the game in net for the Flyers. Bann played in the first half recording three saves, while Coppola recorded two saves in the second frame. Whitney Shutt (Point Pleasant, NJ) recorded one save for Nyack.
"Khadijah Khan did a great job containing Nyack's Agnes Hitimana," said head coach Bobby Czumak. "Jennifer Pancaldo also played with a lot of energy today."
Mercy will be back in action again on Wednesday, October 12, versus East Coast Conference opponent NYIT. This will be the Flyers' last home contest of the season. Kick-off is set for 3:30 pm.
