Mercy Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to Dowling 
DOBBS FERRY, NY- The Mercy College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Dowling on Friday, October 6. Mercy dropped to 2-9-0 overall and 2-5-0 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while Dowling improved to 4-7-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the ECC.
Dowling's Vanessa Moreira (Selden, NY) scored both goals in the contest. Her first goal came in the 13th minute of play, when she received a pass from Lauren Carbonaro (Massapequa Park, NY). The pass sailed over Mercy's defense and left Moreira one-on-one with Mercy's freshman goalkeeper Becky Pelow (Mexico, NY) and Moreira converted. Her second goal of the contest was much like the first one. Teammate Stephanie Cotter (Ridge, NY) passed the ball to Moreira from about midfield. Moreira had a breakaway and was able to capitalize for the Golden Loins in the 82nd minute of play.
Pelow finished with six saves for the Flyers and Samantha Mulholland (North Babylon, NY) recorded three saves for Dowling.
"We had a great team effort today," said head coach Bobby Czumak. "Casey Kondelka was the vocal leader on the field, keeping the team together."
Mercy will be back in action again on Monday, October 9, at Georgian Court. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.
