Khan's Goal Propels Mercy to a 1-0 Win Over Concordia

DOBBS FERRY, NY- The Mercy College women's soccer team posted 1-0 shutout over Concordia on Wednesday, October 4.  Mercy improved to 2-8-0 overall and 2-4-0 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while Concordia fell to 0-7-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the ECC.

Mercy was able to score the only goal of the contest in the 27th minute.  The Flyers were awarded a throw in that was taken by senior midfielder Lindsay Levasseur (Vancouver, Canada).  She placed the ball about 15 yards in front of the goal, where senior defender Khadijah Khan (Montreal, Canada) was waiting and converted.  It was Khan's first score of the season.

"Khadijah has been playing tremendous," said head coach Bobby Czumak.  "It is great to see her score a goal in her senior year."

The Flyers out-shot the Clippers 16-6 in the contest.  Mercy's freshman goal keeper Becky Pelow (Mexico, NY) recorded four saves and Concordia's Jill Martin (Dartmouth, MA) made three stops.

"Becky, Samantha LaBella, and Jennifer Pancaldo all played a solid game today," said Czumak.

Mercy returns to action on Friday, October 6, at home versus ECC opponent Dowling.  Kick-off is at 1:00 p.m.
