Mercy Women's Soccer Falls to Bridgeport, 4-1 
BRIDGEPORT, CT- The Mercy College women's soccer team was defeated by Bridgeport 4-1, in East Coast Conference (ECC) play on Monday, October 2. Mercy is now 1-8-0 overall and 1-4-0 in the ECC. Bridgeport improved to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in ECC play.
Bridgeport scored three of their four goals in the first half. The first goal came in the 23rd minute by Sofia Hoflin (Ostersond, Sweden) with the assist coming from Emma Woolley (Sheffield, England). The Purple Knights were able to score again less than four minutes later. It was Therese Petersson (Lulea, Sweden) scoring for Bridgeport. Sarah Hodge (Longmont, CO) netted the third goal in the half at the 42:43 mark. Bridgeport scored once more in the game and that came in the 50th minute of play. Bianca Minardi (Sutton, MA) crossed a ball from ten yards out to Petersson and she converted, scoring her second goal of the game.
Freshman midfielder Samantha LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) scored the lone goal for the Flyers at the 81:47 mark. LaBella managed to breakaway from a Bridgeport defender, found herself one-on-one with goalkeeper Erikka Desilva (Los Altos, CA) and placed the ball in the back of the net.
Mercy's freshman goalkeeper Becky Pelow (Mexico, NY) junior Chioma Eqbuchunam (Lagos, Nigeria) split the game in net. The duo recorded 14 total saves for the Flyers, six and eight, respectively. DeSilva finished the game with one save for the Purple Knights.
"LaBella had another great game and Jen Pancaldo played outstanding in the midfield," said head coach Bobby Czumak. "Chioma did a solid job in goal in the second half."
Mercy will be back in action again on Wednesday, October 4, at home versus ECC opponent Concordia. Kick-off is set for 3:30 pm.
