Goldey Beacom Edges Mercy Women's Soccer 2-1 in Home Opener

        Dobbs Ferry, NY- The Mercy women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Goldey Beacom in its 2006 home opener on Monday, September 18, 2006.  Mercy dropped to 0-4-0 on the season while Goldey Beacom improved to 2-2-1.

        Goldey Beacom's Katy Ellis (Wilmington, DE) netted the game's first goal at 12:09 in the first half.  She received the ball ten yards in front of the net from Krystle Harris (Hockessin, DE) and converted.  Goldey Beacom scored once more in the half at the 33:52 mark, taking a 2-0 lead in the contest.  This time it was Harris scoring and Ellis with the assist.

        Mercy cut the lead in half when sophomore back Jessica Fabian (Whitehall, PA) scored in the 59th minute.  Senior midfielder Lindsay Levasseur (Vancouver, Canada) had just taken a corner kick for the Flyers and after a wild scramble in front of the net, Fabian was able to find the upper right corner for her first goal of the season.

        Mercy finished the game with an 11-9 advantage in shots. Becky Pelow (Mexico, NY) finished with two saves for the Flyers, both in the second half. Stephanie Steele (Wilmington, DE) also made two stops in the second frame for Goldey Beacom. 

        Mercy will be back in action again on Wednesday, September 20, at home versus Molloy. Kick-off is set for 3:30 pm.
