STAC Tops Mercy Women's Soccer 1-0, in ECC Opener
THEILS, NY - The Mercy College women's soccer team fell by a score of 1-0, to host St. Thomas Aquinas College in its first East Coast Conference (ECC) match of the season. Mercy is now 0-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Senior forward Claudia Miller (Westmoreland, Jamaica) had a goal for the Flyers called back 12 minutes into the contest as a foul was called off the ball.
The game remained scoreless until the 58th minute when Kimberly Griffith scored an unassisted goal for St. Thomas Aquinas that would hold up to be the game-winner.
Mercy had a 13-6 advantage in shots, but St. Thomas Aquinas goalkeeper Jeanette Gibson made five saves. Becky Pelow (Mexico, NY) recorded three stops for the Flyers.
"We put in a tremendous effort today," said head coach Bobby Czumak. "Jessica Fabian and Bia Pante did a great job at marking their top scoring threats and Samantha LaBella gave another outstanding performance."
Mercy will be back in action again on Saturday, September 16, at home versus C.W. Post in another ECC contest. Kick-off is set for 11:00 a.m.
