Mercy Women's Soccer Edged by Dominican 1-0
BLAUVELT, NY - The Mercy College women's soccer team fell by a score of 1-0 to host Dominican on Monday, September 11. Dominican improved to 2-4-0 on the year and Mercy is now 0-2-0.
Dominican's Marie Lamaida (New Hyde Park, NY) scored what proved to be the game winner in the 43rd minute. Lamaida converted a feed from Janet Mordeci (Pearl River, NY).
The Chargers out-shot Mercy by a 13-3 margin. Freshman goalkeeper, Becky Pelow (Mexico, NY) made some key stops for Mercy and finished the contest with seven saves.
Despite the loss head coach Bobby Czumak was pleased with several individual performances.
"Samantha LaBella played a tremendous game," said Czumak. "She put the amount of pressure we need her to put on the Dominican defense in today's game. Casey Kondelka is also becoming a vocal leader on the field."
Mercy will begin East Coast Conference play on Tuesday, September 12, at St. Thomas Aquinas College at 3:00 p.m. The Flyers' first home game will be Saturday, September 16, against C.W. Post at 11 a.m.
