Caldwell Edges Mercy Women's Soccer 2-1 in Final Minute
Box Score

CALDWELL, N.J. -  The Mercy College women's soccer team was edged 2-1 on a last-minute goal by host Caldwell in the Flyers' season opener.  Caldwell improved to 2-2-0 on the year and Mercy is now 0-1-0.

The contest was tied 1-1 and looked as though it would go into overtime, but Patti Clark (North Brunswick, NJ) netted the game-winner for the Cougars with only 10 seconds left in regulation.

After a scoreless first half, Caldwell found the back of the net in the 66th minute, as Victoria Aguilera (Merida, Venezuela) scored from 15 yards out on a feed by Samantha Rinks (Corinth, TX) from the left side.

Mercy's Lindsay Levasseur (Vancouver, Canada) knotted the game at 1-1, burying a shot from 22 yards out on a pass from Claudia Miller (Westmoreland, Jamaica) at the 79-minute mark.

Freshman goalkeeper Becky Pelow (Mexico, NY) made some key stops for Mercy and finished the contest with five saves.

"Becky played an excellent game," said head coach Bobby Czumak.  "We played a great game as a team today, but fell just short."

Mercy returns to action on Monday, September 11, at Dominican College at 3:30 p.m.  The Flyers' first home game will be Saturday, September 16, against C.W. Post at 11 a.m.
