Lindsay Levasseur Earns Mercy College Alumni Achievement Award

DOBBS FERRY, NY -  Former Mercy College women's soccer standout Lindsay Levasseur (Vancouver, Canada/North Delta) will receive the Mercy College Class of 2007 Undergraduate Level Alumni Achievement Award at the College's 72nd Commencement Ceremony on Wednesday, May 30.

Levasseur will receive the award in recognition of her academic excellence and commitment to bettering the lives of others.  She was selected from a group of eight finalists chosen from a graduating class that is nearly 3,000 strong.

"This award truly is a great honor, but it was only with the encouragement and support of Mercy that provided me with the right tools and numerous opportunities to excel and accomplish my goals," said Levasseur.

Levasseur was also named Mercy's Coca-Cola Community All-American earlier this year.  She has distinguished herself throughout her career both on and off the field to make an impact on the lives of others.  In 2006, she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, traveling to New Orleans with a group of students and staff from Mercy College during spring break to assist in the rebuilding process of homes following Hurricane Katrina. This spring she was selected for United Way's Alternative Spring Break, which also helped to rebuild the Gulf Coast, but was unable to participate as she had to tend to family matters.

Levasseur's impact can also be felt in the campus community and extended local community as each year she has assisted with and contributed to Mercy's Blood Drive.  She has also served as a volunteer soccer coach at The Masters School, a local school in Dobbs Ferry, NY, and served on the Student Provost Search Committee in 2006.

Levasseur is among Mercy's brightest student-athletes as well, carrying a 3.7 grade point average with a major in behavioral science.  Following graduation, she will begin graduate school at Mercy College, where she will be working towards a master's degree in English literature.  She has also served as team captain, is a resident assistant in the dormitory, and was named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Fall Sports Honor Roll this year.
