Mercy College Names Lindsay Levasseur as its Coca-Cola Community All-American

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College today announced that Lindsay Levasseur (Vancouver, Canada), a senior on the women's soccer team, has been selected as its Coca-Cola Community All-American for her excellence in community service. The Coca-Cola Community All-Americans program is all about recognizing, celebrating and applauding student-athletes who are making a difference in their communities.

Levasseur has distinguished herself throughout her career both on and off the field to make an impact on the lives of others.  In 2006, she volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, traveling to New Orleans with a group of students and staff from Mercy College during spring break to assist in the rebuilding process of homes following Hurricane Katrina. This spring she was selected for United Way's Alternative Spring Break, which also helped to rebuild the Gulf Coast, but was unable to participate as she had to tend to family matters.

Levasseur's impact can be felt in the campus community and extended local community as each year she has assisted with and contributed to Mercy's Blood Drive.  She has also served as a volunteer soccer coach at The Masters School, a local high school in Dobbs Ferry, NY, and served on the Student Provost Search Committee in 2006.

Levasseur is among Mercy's brightest student-athletes as well, carrying a 3.7 grade point average with a major in behavioral science.  She has served as team captain, is a resident assistant in the dormitory, and was named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) Fall Sports Honor Roll.

"We are extremely proud of all our student-athletes and the tremendous commitments they've made to this institution and our community through their community service efforts," said Mercy College Director of Athletics, Dr. Kevin T. McGinniss. "In addition to bringing national attention to the issues of volunteerism and community involvement, the Coca-Cola Community All-Americans program provides a platform for colleges and universities to honor and recognize student-athletes, like Lindsay, for their outstanding contributions to the communities in which they live, learn, work and play."

As a Coca-Cola Community All-American, Levasseur will be Mercy's nominee at the national level. A panel of representatives from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) will select six student-athletes from NCAA®, NAIATM and Junior/Community College member institutions as national Coca-Cola Community All-Americans. The final Coca-Cola Community All-Americans and their institutions will be recognized this summer at the annual NACDA Convention. Additionally, the six national Coca-Cola Community All-Americans will receive an award and Coca-Cola will make a $5,000 donation to the community/philanthropic cause of their choice.

The Cola-Cola Company teamed with NACDA to recognize community service in intercollegiate athletics.
