DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College women's soccer player Lindsay Levasseur (Vancouver, Canada), has been chosen to participate in Alternative Spring Break (ASB) Gulf Coast from March 26-31. ASB Gulf Coast is United Way's program to send young people to help rebuild the region and is sponsored by MTV.
Levasseur will join several hundred young people from across the country that are traveling to Southwest Louisiana to help rebuild housing, rehabilitate camps and environmental education centers, and help the community that was affected by Hurricane Rita in 2005.
Last spring she joined a group of Mercy College students and staff
members in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana, helping to rebuild that
area following the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. The
experience had such a great impact on her that she applied to MTV
for this year's program which will bring her to Lake Charles,
Louisiana.
"Last year I was with my friends and it was rewarding, and personality building," said Levasseur. "However this time I don't know anyone but I am looking to gain life lessons with the experience. I didn't have plans for Spring Break and I thought this would be another growing adventure."
The senior midfielder played in a total of 56 contests for Mercy, starting all but one. Levasseur ranks among Mercy's all-time leaders in goals, assists, and points. She scored three goals and recorded one assist for the Flyers in her senior campaign. Levasseur was also recognized by the East Coast Conference (ECC) on the 2006 Fall Sports Honor Roll.
