Bub Punches in Two and Znaniecki Adds Another as Women’s Lacrosse Faces No. 2 Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (Apr. 2, 2014) – Senior Kelsey Bub (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. / Walter Panas [Iona College]) scored two second half goals and senior Kristen Znaniecki (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. / Comsewogue) added another as the Mercy College women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 2-ranked Panthers of Adelphi University, 17-3.

The Panthers improve to 10-0 overall while the Mavericks fall to 4-7 overall.

The Mavericks finally got on the scoreboard in the second half as Bub scored on a free position shot with 9:35 left. After graduate student Callie Schwichtenberg (San Diego, Calif. / Granite Hills) won the ensuing draw control, Znaniecki capitalized on the free position shot to give Mercy its second goal of the evening.  Bub punched in the Mavericks' final goal of the night as she converted another free position shot.

For Mercy, Bub added three draw controls and Schwichtenberg had four ground balls. Freshman Melissa DellaRocca (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Lindenhurst) , sophomore Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston), junior Michelle Tiernan (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) and seniors Paige Siegler (Bellmore, N.Y. / John F. Kennedy) and Maria Nardulli (Staten Island, N.Y. / St. Joseph by the Sea) all had a ground ball. Freshman Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) had four saves and two groundballs in 60 minutes of work between the pipes.
