Augustine Scores as Women’s Lacrosse Faces No. 1 LIU Post

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Mar. 19, 2014) – Sophomore Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) scored the Mavericks' lone goal, as every member of the Mercy College women's lacrosse team saw action in a 23-1 loss at No. 1 LIU Post Pioneers. The Mavericks fall to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the East Coast Conference, while the Pioneers improve to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the ECC.

Augustine's lone goal came at the 12:31 mark in the first half. Senior Kelsey Bub (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. / Walter Panas (Iona College) led the team in getting off three shots while collecting two ground balls and winning four draw controls. Freshman Melissa DellaRocca (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Lindenhurst) finished with one ground ball, one caused turnover and two draw controls.

Freshmen Shianne Judson and Jillian Rocco split time between the pipes, combining for nine saves. Sophomore Jacque Tworkowski (South Berwick, Maine / Marshwood) and freshmen Alexa Haines (Lindenhurst, N.Y. / Lindenhurst), Angelica McQuade (Plainedge, N.Y. / Plainedge) and Sara Hennessey (East Syracuse, N.Y. / East Syracuse Minoa) all saw significant action off the bench.

Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks return to action on Saturday, Mar. 22, as they will travel to Sparkill, N.Y. to face the Warriors of St. Thomas Aquinas College in a crucial ECC matchup that could decide the final Championship berth at 1:00 p.m.
