Bub Scores Two as Women’s Lacrosse Faces Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (Mar. 8, 2014) – Senior Kelsey Bub (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. / Walter Panas (Iona College)  totaled three points on two goals and an assist as the Mercy College women's lacrosse team fell to the Huskies of Bloomsburg University, 14-6. The Mavericks fall to 1-3 overall, while the Huskies improve to 1-1 overall.

Mercy fell behind to an early 2-0 deficit in the first six minutes of the game. Bub would score two unanswered goals to erase two-goal deficit and tied the game up at 2-2. Bub scored on an assist from sophomore Nicole Augustine (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) and on a free position shot.

After the Huskies scored to break the 2-2 tie, junior Meg McNally (Hillburn, N.Y. / Suffern (Lock Haven Univ.) scored her first goal of her Mavericks career to tie the game up at 3-3 as the game hit halftime.

In the second half, Bloomsburg responded quickly, scoring three goals, including two on free position shots, for a 6-3 lead. Senior Tracey Wandle (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) would score to cut the Huskies lead to two at 6-4.

After Wandle's goal, the Huskies broke the game open by scoring seven unanswered goals to take a 13-4 lead. Junior Michelle Tiernan (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) and Wandle give the Mavericks their fifth and sixth goals of the afternoon.  Bub would assist on the Mavericks' final goal of the day.

For Mercy, Wandle finished with two points while Augustine, Tiernan, McNally and junior Keri Watson (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) all finished with a point each. Freshman Jillian Rocco (Dix Hills, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) made nine saves in 49:35 minutes of work between the pipes. Freshman Shianne Judson (Bayshore, N.Y. / Bayshore) made her debut in goal for the Mavericks, playing the final 10:25 and making two saves.

Head Coach Dawn Anselmin and the Mavericks return to action on Thursday, Mar. 13, as they will head to Denver, Colo. to face the Rangers of Regis University at 4:00 p.m.
