Lauren Mateja Named ECC Women’s Lacrosse Goalkeeper of the Week
Mercy College freshman Lauren Mateja (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) was named the East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, for the week ending May 2, 2010.
The Mavericks won both games this past week, beating Wilmington,
10-9, and St. Thomas Aquinas, 18-8. In the two games, Mateja made a
combined 20 saves with a .541 save percentage. She allowed just 8.5
goals per game.
Against Wilmington, she made 12 saves, several of which were stuffs in front of the crease. She then made eight stops against STAC.
This is the second time Mateja has earned this award. She also claimed the honor on March 8.
The Mavericks are 8-5 on the season, and 3-3 in the ECC, and in fifth place. Mathematically, Mercy still has an outside chance to make the ECC Championships, where only the top four teams qualify. Mercy concludes its inaugural season on Wednesday by hosting Molloy at 4 p.m.
