Women's Basketball

          Tony Staffiere was named Graduate Assistant for Women's Basketball/Athletics Department Recruiting Coordinator in September of 2006. In these positions he handles all aspects of Mercy's NCAA Division II women's basketball program as well as organizing recruiting efforts for the entire department.

          Staffiere will bring ample coaching experience to the Flyers.  He was named head women's basketball coach at Northern Essex Community College in 2005, where he directed all aspects of the program.  In addition from 2002-04 he was head women's basketball coach and physical education/health lecturer at Regis College.  Staffiere served as the assistant men's basketball coach at Onondaga Community College from 2001-02.  In 2000 and 2001, he served as the graduate assistant women's basketball coach at LeMoyne College.  He started his coaching career at Maine Maritime Academy as an assistant men's basketball coach.

          In 2005, Staffiere was also named Assistant Coordinator of Recreation and Intramurals at Northern Essex Community College.  While there he was responsible for various activities for six varsity programs.  Some of these activities included directing all aspects of intramural events, supervising and scheduling work-study students for home events, budget management and travel.

          Staffiere has been on staff at various basketball camps and clinics, including Five Star Boys Basketball Camp in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati Boys Basketball Camp, and Five Star Girls Basketball Camp in Pittsburgh.  He also volunteered at the 2006 NCAA Final Four Convention in Boston and has contributed in three recent basketball publications.  They include The Miracle of St. Anthony's by Adrian Wojnarowski, Five Star Coaches Playbook, and Maine Roundball On-Line magazine.

          Staffiere is a 1999 graduate of Westfield State College in Westfield, MA, where he earned a bachelor of arts in mass communications. He was named to the Dean's List and finished his degree with a 3.45 cumulative grade point average as a part of the Psi Chi Honor Society.  In 2002, Staffiere graduated with honors from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, NY, where he earned his master's degree in education.

          Staffiere will pursue a master's degree in organizational leadership at Mercy College.  He is also an adjunct lecturer of physical education.
