Mavericks fall to Pioneers 80-47
Five Pioneers scored in double-digits as the C.W. Post women’s basketball team eased past Mercy College, 80-47, on Monday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers improve to 17-6 overall and 12-5 in the East Coast Conference, while Mercy slips to 4-19, 3-14 in the conference.
The Pioneers started off the game on a 7-0 run. The lead quickly bulged to a 17-7 advantage and at the midway point of the half, the Pioneers led 27-10.
The Pioneers continued to push on the offensive and defensive ends, and following a three from Mercy’s Ann Butehorn (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale/Jacksonville State) that cut the Pioneer advantage to 31-15, C.W. Post scored eight straight points, pushing to a 24-point lead and eventually heading into the halftime break with a 39-19 advantage.
Mercy opened the second half with a layup by Simone Williams (Waldorf, Md./Waldorf), but the Pioneers went on a quick 11-0 run to salt the game.
Simone Williams scored 16 points to lead Mercy, who also got an 11-point effort from Jasmine Williams (Stratford, Conn./Greens Farms Academy).
Mercy is home on Wednesday night, as the Queens College Knights
come to visit the Mercy College Gym. Tipoff is slated for 5:00
p.m.
