Women's Basketball Falls To Bridgeport, 63-48

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Despite another double-double from junior forward Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y.), the Mercy College women's basketball team lost to the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday evening by a final score of 63-48 at Hubbell Gym in Bridgeport, Conn. The Yonkers native netted 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. With the victory, Bridgeport improved to 11-5 overall and 8-2 in the East Coast Conference. Following the defeat, Mercy fell to 4-12 on the year and 3-7 in the ECC.

Sophomore guard Simone Williams (Waldorf, Md.) also put on a great performance for the Mavericks as she scored 10 points, dished out five assists and recorded three steals. Sophomore center Ann Butehorn (Farmingdale, N.Y.) drained 10 points as well.

For the Purple Knights, junior forward Ana-Marie Kammer (Frankfurt, Germany) scored a game-high 15 points and brought down seven boards. Senior forward Emma Beddome (Melbourne, Australia) had 11 points and nine rebounds in the triumph. While Mercy as outscored 30-13 in the first half, the guests played tough in the latter stanza, holding a 35-33 edge.

Head coach Kelli Dunlay and the Mavericks continue their two-game road trip when they travel to Flushing, N.Y. on Saturday to take on ECC foe Queens College. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
