Sophomore Jasmine Williams has fourth straight 15-plus contest.
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Mavericks’ sophomore guard Jasmine Williams (Stratford, Conn./Green Farms Academy) and sophomore point guard Simone Williams (Waldorf, Md./Waldorf) combined for 36 points as both sophomores posted career-best efforts against C.W. Post, Saturday afternoon at Mercy College Gym. The Pioneers outscored the Mavericks 101-64, by holding Mercy College to just 27 points in the second half.
Jasmine Williams has stepped it up in the past four games as she has tallied, 14, 18, 15 and 18 points since last Saturday’s game at Molloy (Jan. 9). Williams tied her career-best of 18 points, which she recorded on Monday night’s win against NYIT. Against C.W. Post, Williams shot 7-for-10 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Simone Williams’ scoring spurt against the Pioneers was also her career-best as she shot 8-for-12 from the field and added 2-for-4 from the free throw line.
Sophomore reserve-center Ann Butehorn (Farmingdale, N.Y./Jacksonville State) also scored a season best with 11 points. Butehorn came in to score on 4-of-8 shots, 1-for-3 from long range. Butehorn also knocked in 2-of-2 from the foul line.
Pioneers’ sophomore guard Felicia Joyner led C.W. Post with 22 points.
The Mavericks will return to the road next week after three-straight games at home. Mercy College will travel to University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The women will tip off at 5 p.m. at Harvey Hubbell Gym.
