Reece Tallies Seventh Double-Double, Borofsky Leads With 15 Points In 72-43 Loss To Spartans

SPARKILL, N.Y. – Junior Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) posted her seventh double-double of the season with 11 rebounds, 10 points in the Mercy College women’s basketball team’s loss to St. Thomas Aquinas, 72-43, on Wednesday night at Aquinas Hall.
Reece also had two blocks, two assists and a steal in the East Coast Conference action.
Junior Ashley Borofsky (Southington, Conn./Southington) led the Mavericks with 15 points. Borofsky shot 6-for-13 from the floor, 1-for-3 from the 3-point arc and 2-for-5 from the charity stripe.
Rookie Rachel Ferri (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) also tallied 10 points, shooting 2-for-3 from 3-point range, 3-for-5 overall and 2-for-2 from the foul line.
Despite scoring first, the Mavericks fell behind early in the first period to the Spartans, led by Briana Sloper with 22 points, who racked up a 44-21 lead going into halftime. The Spartans took 70 shot attempts to the Mavericks’ 48.
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 3-8 overall and 2-3 in East Coast Conference play. Mercy College will look to rebound from their tentative slump at Molloy College on Saturday, Jan. 9, when they play the Golden Lions at 1 p.m. at Quealy Gymnasium in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
