East Coast Conference Play Continues
With Queens DH

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – After a close loss for both the men’s and the women’s basketball teams to Bridgeport on Wednesday in their home-season opener, Mercy College is back in action and back on their home court for a Saturday, league double header against Queens College. The women will tip off at noon, followed by the men at 2 p.m. at Mercy College Gym.

The Mercy College women are 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the league and are in the hunt for win No. 2 for head coach Kelli Dunlay. In Wednesday’s game, junior Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) tallied her third double-double of the season with 21 points, 10 rebounds.
The Mercy College men are 0-5 overall and 0-3 in the conference. Head coach Sean O’Connor and the Mavericks almost upset the Bridgeport Purple Knights on Wednesday, as four players tallied double-digit scoring efforts and junior Manny Garcia (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) had a double-double, also with 21 points, 10 rebounds.
Scouting The Knights - Women
The Queens College women are coming off a tough 2-point loss,
69-67, to Adelphi University on Dec. 10. Christine Harnischfeger
shot 8-for-13 from the 3-point arc, scored a career-best 26 points
and finished with six assists. Queens went on a 20-4 run to go
ahead 25-10 midway through the first half.
Harnischfeger leads the Knights with 14.9 ppg (104 points). She is shooting 31-for-73 from the floor (.425) and 23-for-50 from long range (.460). Jennifer Robbins leads the Knights on the boards with 75 total rebounds (50 defensive).
The Knights have had mostly close losses this season. They tallied their lone win against NYIT, 64-52 (Dec. 9).
When Last They Met - Women
The Mavericks went 0-2 against Queens in 2008-09. The teams last
played at Mercy College Gym with a 78-67 final. Aimee Levine had 20
points for the Mavericks, while Ashley Borofsky
tallied 10. Amanda Bartlett led the way for Queens with 29 points,
Harnischfeger had a second-best 18.
Scouting The Knights - Men
The Queens College Knights (2-4, 1-1 ECC) are on a three-game
losing streak starting at East Stroudsburg (Dec. 4) and capped off
by a 79-74 loss against NYIT on Dec. 9.
Khaleef Allicott leads the Knights in scoring with 16.8 ppg (101 points). Khalil McDonald is second in scoring with 12.0 ppg (72 points.)
Akim Neverson is the team’s leading rebounder with 38 total boards (19 defensive).
The Knights had five players score in double-digits in their loss to NYIT. Neverson led Queens College with 14 points.
When Last They Met -
Men
The Mavericks and Knights last met on Feb. 11, 2009; when the
Knights handed the Mavericks a 79-62 loss on their home court.
Allicott led the way for Queens with 23 points. The Mavericks were
led by Justin McMullen with 16 points. Ed Wilson
(Bronx, N.Y./Monsignor Scanlan) tallied 14, shooting 6-for-11 from
the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Rebounds
were the game’s deciding factor as the Knights out-rebounded
the Mavericks 37-22. Previously, the Mavericks had lost 87-48 at
Queens (Jan. 19).
