Reece Posts Third Season Double-Double In 86-65 Loss To Bridgeport

Junior Delmara Reece tallies third double-double with 21 points, 10 boards.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Maverick junior Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y./ Saunders) tallied her third double-double of the season and second this month as she posted 21 points and 10 rebounds in Mercy College’s 86-65 loss to Bridgeport in East Coast Conference action at Mercy College Gym.

Reece had a stellar day shooting, with her second 21-point game this season. The junior shot 10-for-15 from the floor and was 1-for-1 on the foul line.

With the loss the Mavericks fall to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the ECC. The Purple Knights advance to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the league.

Junior Ashley Borofsky (Southington, N.Y./Southington) had the team’s second-highest point with 12. Sophomore Simone Williams (Waldorf, Md./Waldorf) had a season-best seven assists, boosting her tally to 18 for the season.

Bridgeport took a 15-point lead with just under four minutes to play in the first half before the Mavericks went on a 6-0 run to bring it within nine with 1:42 remaining in the period. After a Purple Knight 3-pointer from Emma Beddome, a jumper by Reece and a 3-ball from rookie Rachel Ferri (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) cut the Purple Knight lead to seven, 41-34.

In the second period, the Purple Knights pulled away to extend their lead to up to 24 before the Mavericks had some last minute points to cut the score to 86-65.

Led by Reece’s 10 rebounds, the Mavericks led Bridgeport in second-chance points 10-5. In the first half, Mercy College led in second chance point 12-10.

The Mavericks have a short break before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 12 for another East Coast Conference double-header. Mercy College will take on Queens College with the women starting at Noon and the men following at 2 p.m.
