WATERBURY, Conn. – The Mercy College women’s basketball team had three players score in the double-figures in the Mavericks’ 80-61 non-conference loss to Post University, Tuesday night at the Drubner Center.

Junior Ashley Borofsky (Southington, Conn./Southington) was the team’s high-point scorer for the second-straight game with 15 points, despite shooting 6-for-21 from the field. However, Borofsky was 3-for-8 from the 3-point arc, had six rebounds and two steals.

Rookie Rachel Ferri (Cranston, R.I./Cranston West) was second in scoring with her first double-digit performance of 14 points. Ferri was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line and 4-for-11 from the floor. The rookie guard also added five assists to her tally and five steals with just one turnover in 40 minutes of play.

Maverick junior Courtney Cochran (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) tallied 11 points for Mercy College. Cochran was just shy of her first season double-double as she grabbed nine rebounds (five defensive, four offensive). The junior center was 5-for-11 in shooting, 0-for-1 from the 3-point range and 1-for-2 from the charity stripe.

Junior Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) posted 14 rebounds for the Mavericks with 10 defensive boards. Reece also had two assists and nine points, making Tuesday’s performance one-point short of her second-straight double-double.

Post and Mercy College went back and forth for most of the first half. The Mavericks tied the half for the fourth time with a jump shot from freshman Kaitlin Jetter (Ozone Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), making the score 26-26 with 2:39 remaining. Post University went on a seven-point run to take a 33-26 lead with just under a minute remaining. Cochran’s layup in the final 10 seconds of the half broke the Post lead to five, 33-28, going into the halftime break.

Post held on to their lead in the second half and slowly extended it for a final victory 80-61.

The Mavericks will have the Thanksgiving break off before they travel to Dowling on Wednesday, Dec. 2 for their first East Coast Conference match up. Tip off is slated for 5 p.m. at the Golden Lions Gymnasium in Oakdale, N.Y.
