The Mavericks started slowly chipping away, sparked by a jumper from Williams at 6:54, and topped off with a layup from Borofsky, set up by Reece with just under four minutes left to bring the score to within two, 27-25. Georgian Court extended the lead back to four with a jumper by GCU’s Christina White. White turned the ball over twice in the waning two minutes of the half, and the Mavericks capitalized with a free throw made by rookie Rachel Ferri (Cranston, R.I./Cranston Ward) and a pair added by Borofsky to bring Mercy College within two-points again as time expired in the first period, 27-25.

GCU held a steady lead until just less than nine minutes before the Mavericks started aggressively fighting back. Reece hit a jumper, but missed the point to make the score 47-37. Senior Samantha DeVore (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) hit a layup and one to cut the Georgian Court lead to seven, 47-40.
