Women's Basketball Falls at Molloy

The Mercy College women’s basketball program fell to Molloy College 78-44 tonight, in the penultimate game of the season. Mercy falls to 4-22 on the season, including 3-17 in the East Coast Conference. Molloy improves to 18-7 overall, and 15-5 in the ECC.

Mercy took an early lead at 6-5, as tough defense transitioned into points. Courtney Cochran (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) came up with a loose ball on the defensive end and pushed the ball forward to Simone Williams (Waldorf, Md./Waldorf), who easily laid the ball in at the 16:43 mark. Molloy responded with an 8-0 run, and the Mavericks would never lead again.

For the game, Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) paced the Mavs with a 14-point, 11-rebound effort. Simone Williams finished with 14 points, eight of which came in the first half. Ashley Borofsky (Southington, Conn./Southington) finished with a consistent seven point, seven rebound performance.

Mercy concludes the regular season on Saturday, February 27, when NYIT comes to the Mercy Gym. The women’s game is slated for a noon tip, which will be followed by an alumni basketball game and reception.
