Mavericks Fall to Queens College 71-56

The Mercy College women’s basketball team fell at the hands of the Queens College Knights 71-56 on Wednesday night, February 17, before 123 fans at the Mercy College Gym.

Queens improves to 6-17 overall, and 6-11 in the East Coast Conference, while Mercy falls to 4-18 and 3-12.

The game was close and competitive throughout. In the first 20 minutes, the lead flipped back and forth several times, as Queens took a tenuous 26-24 lead into the break. Three Mavericks scored six points in the first half, including Jasmine Williams (Stratford, Conn./Greens Farms Academy), whose jumper with 45 seconds to go tied the game. But Chloe Johnson hit a shot as time wound down to give Queens the lead.

In the second half, Jennifer Robbins scored nine of her 15 and Christine Harnischfeger scored 15 of her game-high 17 points to help the Knights pull away for the win.

For Mercy, Delmara Reece (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) scored 17 to lead the way.

Next up for Mercy is a Saturday date at 1:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas.
